Newsflash

This letter is one of many we receive

My name is Igor Railean. I am the pastor of the Baptist Church in Pinzareni village in the Republic of Moldova.

mariagirl.jpgTogether with the church members I began a project to help children from socially vulnerable families from our village. Approximately 20-25 children from such families get daily a warm lunch at the church.

Among these children there are two sisters from the most depraved family in the village. The parents drink. The girls Maria 8 year-old and Natasha 6 year-old live in extreme conditions and endure a lot of sufferings from their parents. Mother often sends them after alcoholic drinks in the village and if they don’t bring them the girls are severely beaten by their mother.

Many times together with the social workers from thenatasha.jpg church we have seen the results of the beatings on the girls’ backs. Because the parents drink all the money they do not have on what to buy food. That’s why the girls the majority of times eat just once a day at the church. And often they go to sleep hungry. Also because the parents drink they buy them no clothes and no shoes. This winter was severely cold for
Moldova. On a frost of -25 these sisters wore gum boots. Their feet were violet-blue because of the cold. Because of this the youngest girl Natasha got sick and in spring she was put in hospital.

That’s why we ask you if you can help financially these poor girls to buy winter clothes and shoes for winter sending money on my name because their parents will drink the money if they get it and the girls’ state would not change.

From the pastor of the church   Igor Railean

Needless to say these children will be helped as will Igor and the “Soup Kitchen” with ongoing support. But all this and our other projects need funding.

Should you wish to help with a few pounds a month please download a Standing Order Form.

Summer Time is here

Click HereChildren in Moldova are getting excited about going to Summer camp again this year. Their appearance discuses the life of hardship they lead.

Last year Sue May joined us and helped at the camp. Click this picture to read her report.

This year we are to be joined by three young ladies who have volunteered their time to help.

We are very grateful to everyone whom has so kindly and lovingly prepared Summer Camp Shoeboxes for the children. As mentioned in our Newsletter some of the children arrive at cam and their only belongings are the clothes they stand up in.

Thank you also to those who have given money to enable this camp to take place. We know times are hard and it is so easy to consider yourself first but we are blessed as a charity by some very generous supporters who support our work. Needless to say we need more!

Please remember we are a totally voluntary charity.

Christian Response to Eastern Europe

Welcome to the Christian Response website.  The object of this site is to provide you with useful information about our work in the hope that it will help you understand what we do and why we do it.

A very brief history. The roots of Christian Response go back to 1990.  You may well remember the hideous images of the orphanages in Romania.  It was in 1990 that Gary Taverner had a vision to help in these orphanages and from there everything snowballed.

Over the years, the situation in Romania improved therefore we began to expand activities. Missions were made to Albania and some of the areas devastated by the nuclear disaster in Chernobyl.  Whilst working in Romania we were to hear reports about the neighbouring country of Moldova and how appalling levels of poverty abound there. One fleeting visit and Moldova was taken into our hearts.

Whilst maintaining our interest in Romania by far the majority of effort is now concentrated on the country of Moldova. It is Europe’s poorest country and the situation out there is really dreadful. You can read more about this under the section headed “Moldova, the country”.

All who work for the charity “Christian Response” are volunteers, no-one is paid. We have no offices or other rented premises.  We borrow all we can, rather than renting or hiring, all this means the money saved can be spent on those we seek to help in Eastern Europe.

If you are interested in our work please read some of the past newsletters and look at all the other information you can find on this website, the tabs for which are on the left.
