Newsflash
Welcome to the Christian Response website.  The object of this site is to provide you with useful information about our work in the hope that it will help you understand what we do and why we do it.

A very brief history. The roots of Christian Response go back to 1990.  You may well remember the hideous images of the orphanages in Romania.  It was in 1990 that Gary Taverner had a vision to help in these orphanages and from there everything snowballed.

Over the years, the situation in Romania improved therefore we began to expand activities. Missions were made to Albania and some of the areas devastated by the nuclear disaster in Chernobyl.  Whilst working in Romania we were to hear reports about the neighbouring country of Moldova and how appalling levels of poverty abound there. One fleeting visit and Moldova was taken into our hearts.

Whilst maintaining our interest in Romania by far the majority of effort is now concentrated on the country of Moldova. It is Europe’s poorest country and the situation out there is really dreadful. You can read more about this under the section headed “Moldova, the country”.

All who work for the charity “Christian Response” are volunteers, no-one is paid. We have no offices or other rented premises.  We borrow all we can, rather than renting or hiring, all this means the money saved can be spent on those we seek to help in Eastern Europe.

If you are interested in our work please read some of the past newsletters and look at all the other information you can find on this website, the tabs for which are on the left.

Medical News -

· cr2ee supports many families and tries to respond to their many genuine needs. Many of the needs that are presented to cr2ee are medical. The medical problems are often complex and chronic having their origins in abject poverty, alcohol abuse and accident. The full spectrum of common medical complaints are found. Children are often particularly affected. Congenital abnormalities are common. Many of the families are unable to access medical care due to lack of money. Many of the health beliefs are very different from those we have in the UK. Families worry a lot about there health many believing they do not have access to medical care. Recently an Insurance scheme has been introduced. It covers part of the medical care. Some families cannot afford to subscribe to the scheme.

· cr2ee is working with doctors and nurses in Moldova to develop ways to over come the medical burden. Attempt to seek ways to increase the knowledge of simple medical problems.

· cr2ee receives much in the way of donation of medical equipment. It is our hope that this will continue.

Current Medical Projects.

Summary of our medical activity in Moldova.

1.       The Centre Gura Bicului – offers opportunity to build from scratch a medical centre. We will equip two medical consultation rooms. Access will be permitted to the local family doctor and his nurse and we will work with the local medical practice to enhance the medical services to the village of Gura Bicului.

2.       We have the support of the local medical practice – Dr John Perkins and Dr Jill Evans on behalf of the Charity have travelled to Moldova and spent time with Dr Artiom Jucov and Dr Alex Badiul – both GP’s who have agreed to work with us to progress our project.

3.       Dr John Perkins has had meetings with Natalia – the local district nurse in Gura Bicului who has agreed to support our project and work with families.

4.       Dr John has recruited support in Moldova and UK to set up a Venous Leg ulcer project. This is active and exciting and of huge interest to the doctors we are working with in Moldova.

5.       There are a number of other projects in the pipeline that we can start once the Centre is opened.

6.       The Charity is also working with GP’s in Lozova to the west of Moldova. We hope to support this practice and are very encouraged by their humility and enthusiasm.

7.       We have established contacts in Chişinău hospitals from whom we can receive ongoing guidance.

8.       It is our hope that within twelve months – that is July 2011 – we will have a medical conference in the Centre in Gura Bicului.

We need a lot of support. Money most certainly – to provide essential basic equipment. Money also for dressings and disposable items. We are also seeking equipment.

If you feel you would like to support this medical project please contact our medical co-ordinator, Dr John Perkins, email :-  medical@cr2ee.org.uk.

· Financial support is key to all our activity.

· All monies donated are committed to projects.

· cr2ee uses volunteers only; our expenses are kept to a minimum due to generous support.
